Unleash Your Entrepreneur

There are few activities that push me and my clubbed feet to my physical and mental limits more than a long mountain climb on my road bike.

Sometimes being obsessed about the finish lines of life can be helpful, but cycling has a way of mentally punishing you if you spend too much time thinking too far into the future.

Let me explain...

The more you focus on reaching the summit and the future relief for your legs and lungs - the longer the climb seems to become.

Thoughts about being at the top of the mountain only seem to push the goal further away.

Worse, this dynamic is compounded by a loss of all your gumption for the work at hand. Your future based thinking saps energy and strength in the moment.

The more you want the next rise to be the summit, the more it is sure to be an illusion (a false summit).

Focusing on "what will be" gets in the way of accepting "what is", crushing your will to keep pushing through at a critical moment.

Which brings us to our current mountain of a challenge...

People ask, "When are we going to be on the other side of the Covid-19 crisis?"

It's a valid question, yet I fear that the more that we focus on anticipating an early end, the more we risk losing our entrepreneurial power today - at a time when we need it the most.

I would love to wake up tomorrow with Covid-19 having been a bad dream - but it is our current reality and I believe that we are not anywhere near the summit.

While I'm no pandemic expert, I know that can't afford my self any thoughts of this virus being in my rearview mirror in the next couple of weeks.

I am better off accepting that this is going to be a slogg for the next 90 days instead of expecting a summit any sooner.

I think wrestlers call it "embracing the grind" and I believe the military folks call it "embracing the suck".

You might not be a wrestler or a veteran - but you are an entrepreneur.

It's time to surrender the external outcome and invite your inner entrepreneur to embrace the grind and lead through this process.

In this video, I talk about Surrendering in order to Unleash your Inner Entrepreneur (Click Here to View).
